The Board of Land & Natural Resources denied the Mauna Kea astronomy opponents request for a contested case hearing regarding their approval of the Mauna Kea Comprehensive Management Plan today. This decision will likely mean that these obstructionists will now go to court to try to invalidate the Mauna Kea CMP.
(Hawaii Tribune -Herald’s Saturday edition article in regarding this decision).
I really wonder who is bankrolling the legal costs of undertaking these court actions. It certainly isn’t the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
The old Keauhou Wendys will be coverted to a Sam Choy’s restaurant in the near future. This absolutely great news since this site has fallen into disrepair since Wendys vacated it in 2006.
Ross Dress For Less will be moving into the empty Circuit City space at Kona Commons. This official announcement confirms what has been a long standing rumor for the last few months. It is my understanding that this new store should be opened by next summer.
I was able to get a copy of Hawaiian Telcom’s disclosure statement for their bankruptcy reorganization here. The big question for me is Sandwich Isles Communication’s failure to submit a competing reorganization plan thus far. They made such a big deal of their 400 million dollar offer to buy Hawaiian Telcom a few months ago. However it seems it was all for show as their failure to submit their plans shows that they were not serious to purchase HawTel after all.
Hawaiian Telcom is offering a great deal on their dry DSL service tiers. They are offering their 3,7,11Mbps service for $34.99 +tax per month without land line service.
The Hawaii County Council will be discussing the continued obstacles blocking the completion of the Hokulia bypass at their September 1st, meeting. The most pressing issue is Hokulia’s ability to pay for the upcoming renewal for the surety bonds.Nonetheless, the Coupe’s (and now the Smiths/Whitakers) unwillingness to convey their lands for this road are the other significant roadblocks.
Lastly, it seems both the public worker unions and Governor Lingle are playing with fire. The difference between 30 and 48 furlough days over the next two years is not a wide gulf to breach. Especially since Governor Lingle had originally asked for 72 days. These childish games being exhibited by both parties ais not being productive at all. Thus I’m really afraid that once again the taxpayers of this state will be shafted with higher taxes and less public services.
