The West Hawaii public hearing regarding the draft SEIS for the Kona side phase of the Saddle Road improvement project will be happen at 3:30pm @ NELHA Gateway Center.
There was a public hearing in Hilo yesterday regarding this document. The meeting had about 150-200 attendees. The biggest issues identified by the individuals who testified were the environment, Native Hawaiian rights, and concerns about depleted uranium up at PTA.

I’m planning to attend the Kona side public hearing as I really want this last segment of Saddle Road realigned.
The opening of Keokeo/Holu Street should happen around January 9, 2010. Hawaii County was notified yesterday that the favorable November 19, 2009 ruling was officially entered. This triggers a 30 day window for any appeals to be filed.
Hawaii Tribune-Herald had an article about yesterday’s Mauna Kea CMP lawsuit hearing. I certainly hope the plaintiffs don’t succeed in their efforts to invalidate the Mauna Kea CMP. This would torpedo the development of the Thirty Meter Telescope. In addition, it would severely damage Mauna Kea’s reputation as a world-class astronomy location.
It boggles my mind why the Hawaii County Board of Ethics is so strongly opposed to Mayor Kenoi’s proposed ethics rule changes. These modifications are needed to reduce the amount of corruption in county government.
Lastly, Raytheon, Gold Ivory LLC’s (affiliated with Waimana Enterprises/Sandwich Isles Communications) partner to build a statewide public safety communications network, has started to seek applicants to build the infrastructure. This is surprising since the federal broadband stimulus money has not been awarded yet (or they know something the public doesn’t know?).
