HELCO asked the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission for provisional approval to relocate their utility poles alongside Palani Road (between Henry Street and Queen Kaahumanu Highway) by May 26th, 2010 (Hawaii PUC DMS docket #2010-0027). However, their application remains open as of today. I hope the Hawaii PUC issues a timely decision in this matter. The pole relocation allows Nan/CTS Earthmoving Inc. to start work on reconstructing/widening Palani Road.

I sent this e-mail below urging the Hawaii PUC to issue a timely decision on HELCO’s application:
Aloha,
I’m curious if the Commission will issue a provisional decision on docket number 2010-0027 by May 26th, 2010. HELCO needs a favorable ruling by that date so they can start committing resources to this pole relocation. In addition, they are facing strict deadlines to complete this pole relocation imposed by Hawaii County.
The Ane Keohokalole Highway project is extremely important to the Kona community. So, I hope the commission complies with HELCO’s request.
Sincerely,
Aaron Stene
The roadway striping contractor who is doing the final striping at the Kealaka’a/Palani Road/Palihiolo Street intersection has completed the makai roadway striping as of today. However, the roadway pavement surface where the old utility poles were located is horrible. I drove over it this morning and it caused my truck bounce all around.
I’ve e-mailed the county pointing out the poor job Jas Glover did filling in the old utility pole holes. In addition, I’m trying to ascertain when the county will activate this much needed traffic signal. It was my understanding the traffic signal would be energized after the roadway striping was completed.
Lastly, the furlough Friday embarrassment is finally over. This travesty should’ve been resolved much earlier. However, the children of Hawaii were caught in crossfire between selfish politicians, bureaucrats, and union members. These groups were playing politics with each for months while the children suffered. In short, these individuals lost sight of the lasting damage these furlough days would have on our children’s education.
