The Hawaii PUC approved Hawaiian Telcom’s bankruptcy reorganization yesterday. This final regulatory approval paves the way for Hawaiian Telcom to exit bankruptcy protection in 30 days. Nevertheless, their post bankruptcy success remains murky.
Hawaiian Telcom is pinning their future financial success on rolling out NGTV and offering triple play services (landline, Internet, and television). However, NGTV requires a lot of bandwidth. So, Hawaiian Telcom’s aging last mile copper loop infrastructure will be its Achilles heal.

Lastly, the project engineer overseeing the future Makalei Fire Station project sent me this update:
“I will keep you advised when we advertise the project.
It’s hard to give a firm timeline on when the bid will be ready. We are in the process of the final review of the plans and bid specs so it’s necessary to take the time to ensure accuracy. We are looking for us to bid this project out by the end of the year.”
